Why I Selected this Topic: I selected the topic of Female Drivers in Saudi Arabia because I'm very interested in the progression of rights for women around the world. The recent lift of the ban against female drivers in Saudi Arabia caught my attention because, as a woman, I'm proud of these accomplishments and enjoy keeping up with the advancement of gender equality all over the world. As a female firefighter who works in a male-dominated environment, I find events like this to be fascinating. Stories and events about women's rights help them to understand that we are equal to men. It also helps to empower and encourage them to follow their dreams and do what they want to do.
The Process |
My research question was initially too vague, so I managed to edit it to have it focus on the impact that the lift of the driving ban had on the progression of Gender Equality in Saudi Arabia. In the beginning, the only thing I knew about the female driving ban in Saudi Arabia, was that it was the last country to have a ban preventing women from driving. After it was lifted, it was official that women all over the globe are allowed to drive in their countries. Some surprises that I learned while researching this topic were how many people were against the advancements of women's rights. Many men in Saudi Arabia felt that the lift of the ban was a negative thing. Something that made my research process difficult was that most of the articles I had found were all very similar and didn't go very far into detail about the effects of the event.
